A new version of Willy Russell’s famous play. Educating Rita became an Oscar nominated film, starring Michael Caine, and Julie Walters.
Director: Martin Cooke
Running time: 2 hours, including an interval
"Educating Rita" is a modern take on PYGMALION set in 1980’s Liverpool. The international cast features the theatre’s superb actors, with the exception that this time director Martin Cooke plays Frank. The story is a ‘substantive melodrama’ that not only explores the nature of human relationships, but also poses questions about the value of education, identity and freedom. The style of the production is witty and organic, combining elements of psychological drama with physical theatre and stand-up comedy. It has a rock-and-roll atmosphere and runs for two hours with a short interval.
