A Visit from St. Nicholas (often called ”'Twas the Night Before Christmas”, from its first line) is a famous traditional poem by Clement Clarke Moore. It describes a magical Christmas Eve in which a family is asleep when the narrator hears Santa Claus arrive in a sleigh pulled by eight tiny reindeer. The œuvre shaped the modern image of Santa as a cheerful, plump, pipe-smoking figure who enters through the chimney carrying toys for children.
